Welcome to Reception

Meet the staff in Reception

Mrs Crossley - EYFS Lead and Minnie Class Teacher

Mr Hashmi - Teaching Assistant

Mrs Azad - Teaching Assistant

Mr Greenfield-Teaching Assistant Apprentice

Mrs Paul - SEN TA

In Reception we are encouraged to explore, create, be curious, messy and have fun. Through all of this, we learn!

All of our learning is focused on the 'Characteristics of Effective Learning'; Playing and Exploring, Active Learning and Creating and Thinking Critically. Our classrooms and outdoor area are set up to enhance your child's learning and development of skills in these areas. We promote the characteristics through our Achievosaur initiative in our key worker groups.  This year we are also an Early Adopter of the new Early Years Framework.

Projects

In Reception your child tells us what they love and we teach them all about it! We also base our projects on the experiences and skills that we know the children need to learn about from our regular assessments.  We like to ensure your child loves to learn and the way to do that is to learn about what they love. We use our knowledge of the children and observations of their learning to create lots of exciting and practical learning opportunities around their ideas and Characteristics of Effective Learning.

Spring A Big Question...

Happily Ever After?

In literacy we will be reading some traditional tales including Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Three Little Pigs. We will look at what the stories have in common and notice any differences. We will use this information to change the story to create our own traditional tale. In Maths we will be looking at representing, comparing and composing number to 8. In our project sessions we will be looking at which stories are special and why.

Our PE session is on a Monday. Please come to school wearing your PE kit on this day. This should include black jogging bottoms, shorts or leggings, a white polo top or t-shirt and a black jacket for outdoor PE sessions. Please also ensure your child has appropriate sports shoes with Velcro fastenings in their PE kit to change into. Please can all uniform and PE kit be labelled with your child's name.

Reading Books

Your child's reading books will be changed every Thursday. Please can you read with your child at home for 10 minutes every night and sign their reading record. This Reading Record needs to be brought into school every day in order to move up the troll tree. If you make it to the top of the troll tree by reading every day you will be entered into the prize draw to win a book in our celebration assembly.

Please respect our school books.
